Background
Pressure had been rising in montgomery for a while to deal with public transportation that treated blacks as second class citizens. These pressures increased with the arrest of 15 year old Claudette Colvin on march 2 1955. She was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white person. Even though Colvin wasn't in violation to the city bus policy her refusal to give up her seat got her convicted. Rosa Park's arrest was the last straw. African americans were tired of this injustice and decided to do something about it.
